Do I need every S-tier card before Shrike?
No. A lean mix of Shout / Reckless, Lock and Load + Barrage, and Rot is enough if you read clocks and swap lanes.

This Shards of Order best cards page ranks early unlock priorities for the shared deck. Level-ups grant new cards per hero — you choose what enters the pool, and dead weight slows every cycle. Verified August 16, 2026 · Steam.
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Deck model | One shared deck for all three heroes |
| Unlocks | Per-hero level rewards — optional to include |
| Early goal | Reliable setup + one finisher each |
| Trim habit | Cut at every checkpoint |
| Run length | About 10–12 hours to credits (estimate) |
| Combat page | Combat guide |
Priority is enablement, not peak damage. You want tools that make Time Counters readable: Strength/Rage for Warrior, Quiver loaders for Exile, Rot for Scholar.

| Priority | Card | Hero | Why first |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Commanding Shout | Warrior | Strength + Rage enabler; later hits whole party |
| S | Barrage (starter access) | Exile | Converts full Quiver into burst |
| S | Rot | Scholar | 1 Time, no mana gate, starts the DoT line |
| A | Reckless Strike | Warrior | Cheap damage + 2 Rage |
| A | Lock and Load | Exile | Loads arrow and scales with Quiver |
| A | Caltrops / Weakening | Exile | Board-wide damage reduction |
| B | Crushing Blow | Warrior | Needs Strength stacks to shine |
| B | Contagion | Scholar | Strong, but Red Mana gated |
S means unlock-and-include on almost every early run. A means include once the hero is online. B means situational — only after the S/A package is stable.
Early UI leans Warrior / Exile / Scholar. Later cast names Lev / Ayla / Thade map to those roles — use whichever label your build screen shows.
Warrior picks next.
Warrior (Lev) wants Strength stacks, Rage for weapon thresholds, and enough Shield to sit on threatened lanes.
| Card | Tier note | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| Commanding Shout | First level-up standout | Always — upgrade path buffs allies |
| Reckless Strike | Tier I | Filling Rage on Vengeance-style weapons |
| Crushing Blow | Needs Strength | After Shout / Strength setup |
| Duel | 1 Time | When Warrior is the targeted lane |
| Irritation | 0 Time, self-damage | Cycling Redraw cost down |
| The Judge → Jury → Execution | Chain finisher | When you can spend 2+2 Time safely |
If your sword needs three Rage to unlock a mode, Reckless Strike suddenly outranks raw damage cards. Read the weapon before you spend the level node.
Duel and Grit-line cards keep Warrior alive while Exile ramps. A glass Warrior forces Ethereal early — bad habit before Shrike.
Exile package next.
Exile (Ayla) is a Quiver engine. Empty Quiver feels weak; full Quiver plus Barrage deletes elites.
| Card | Job | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Lock and Load | Load + scaled hit | Pick base and upgrade early |
| Quickstrike | Damage on empty Quiver | Discard cost — plan the fodder |
| Caltrops | 4 Weakness all enemies | Pairs with Weakening upgrades |
| Powerload | Arrow on every Redraw | Fixes late-region Quiver drought |
| Salvo | Damage or sacrifice for arrows | Discard into Quickstrike lines |
| Fully Automatic | Fill Quiver | Usually after dumping Barrage |
Barrage arrives with Exile. Do not cut it to “make room” for vanity cards. The whole Quiver kit exists to feed that burst.
Shrike and multi-hit villagers punish raw trades. Caltrops earns its slot even when your Quiver plan is mid-ramp.
Scholar priorities close the trio.
Scholar (Thade) either supports with shields/enrage or leans Rot + Time bumps. Early regions favour the Rot line because it ignores missing mana.
| Card | Cost note | Why it ranks |
|---|---|---|
| Rot | 1 Time, no mana | Reliable DoT starter |
| Contagion | 2 Time + Red Mana | Spreads Rot on kill |
| Decay | Low Time, needs prior unlocks | Applies Rot equal to target’s Time Counter |
| Arcane Path | Heavy mana tax | Permanent damage growth on kills |
| Unstable Currents | Exhaust | Damage whenever you spend mana |
| Sage (quest) | Herbalist save reward | Party heal 8 — keep if you rescued herbalist |
Later, Rot and Barrage shine when card Time Costs spike. Investing early in Rot is not only a beginner convenience — it pays on walkthrough midgame bosses.
Cuts matter as much as unlocks.

Owning a card is not the same as running it. If a card does not enable Rage, Quiver, Rot, or emergency defense, park it until a boss demands it.
Weapons and armor inject cards and rewrite thresholds. Crystal Staff + Shifting Fabric style pairs can flood Arcane Bolt; bow quiver size changes how often Barrage is ready.
Memories are not locked to one hero — swap them to the kit that needs the passive this fight. Illusionist / Gambler memories from puzzles are progress items first, build toys second.
Equip screens that add three situational cards can quietly wreck cycle speed. Read the inject list, then revisit this priority table.
Role deep-dives: characters. Clock mastery: combat guide.
No. A lean mix of Shout / Reckless, Lock and Load + Barrage, and Rot is enough if you read clocks and swap lanes.
Time Cost probably rose. Expensive cards lose value until Weakness and shields are consistent — see the combat guide.
Sage, Tasty Rations, Disenchantment, and similar rewards are situational includes. Grab them from herbalist house / village quests, then cut them when the quest ends.
