This Shards of Order characters page explains Warrior, Exile, and Scholar on the shared deck — early role names, later common names Lev / Ayla / Thade, and how each kit spends Time. Verified August 16, 2026 · Steam.
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Party size | Three heroes, one shared deck |
| Early labels | Warrior · Exile · Scholar |
| Later names | Lev · Ayla · Thade (verify in your build) |
| Swap cost | Usually 1 Time (free with Momentum) |
| Deep cards | Best cards |
| Deep combat | Combat guide |
Enemies target positions. Any hero can stand in any lane, but kits still specialise. Cards for all three live in one draw pile.

| System | What it means |
|---|---|
| Shared deck | Draws can be any hero’s card — trim ruthlessly |
| Lane swaps | Move the tank onto the telegraphed hit |
| Downed hero | Their cards become Revive cards |
| Ethereal Power | Full party save once per fight |
| Gear | Weapons/armor inject hero-specific cards |
Warrior plays feed Red Mana, Exile feeds Green, Scholar feeds Blue. A mono-Warrior hand quietly bricks mana-gated Scholar cards.
After Morgain, party banter commonly uses Lev, Ayla, and Thade. Build menus may still emphasise roles — both refer to the same three kits.
Warrior deep dive:
Frontliner. Stacks Strength, builds Rage for weapon thresholds, and holds Shield on the glowing lane.
| Kit piece | Job |
|---|---|
| Strength | Amplifies strikes; Crushing Blow doubles its value |
| Rage | Feeds weapon modes (example: Vengeance thresholds) |
| Shield / Grit | Soaks telegraphed hits |
| Commanding Shout | Early Strength + Rage engine |
| Judge chain | High Time finisher when windows are safe |
Setup Shout / Reckless → sit on the spiked lane → spend leftover Time on damage. If Exile or Scholar is targeted, swap first.
Usually a deck with no shield density, or Judge chains played into hot clocks. Re-read combat before blaming HP pools.
Exile next.
Glass-cannon archer. Quiver size comes from the bow; overflow shots fire automatically; Sharp raises arrow damage; Barrage dumps a full Quiver.

| Kit piece | Job |
|---|---|
| Quiver loaders | Lock and Load, Powerload, Fully Automatic |
| Barrage | Primary burst spend |
| Weakness / Caltrops | Boss and multi-hit insurance |
| Quickstrike / Salvo | Damage or discard-to-load lines |
| Positioning | Keep her off spike lanes |
That is intended ramp, not a broken kit. Keep loaders in the shared deck or she becomes a Weakness bot only.
Exile joins in the western corridor ambush during Shrike’s Lair — earlier than Scholar.
Scholar kit:
Support and Rot specialist. Gains coloured mana from whatever the party plays; some cards hard-gate on mana plus Time.
| Kit piece | Job |
|---|---|
| Rot line | Reliable DoT without mana |
| Contagion / Decay | Spread or Time-scaled Rot |
| Arcane Path | Expensive scaling nuke |
| Heals / shields | Keep lanes alive between Warrior swaps |
| Quest cards | Sage from herbalist save, Horn weapon later |
Pure support is fine for beginners. Rot DPS pays off on long HP bosses like Wine King. Pick one identity per region so the shared deck stays lean.
Scholar joins after the stone statues pathway fight — last of the three.
Focus vs balance:
Matched by build plan, shared topics, and guide progression — not random related links.
Early regions: balance. Midgame: specialise for the next boss, then rebalance.
Use this if you are mid-lair and missing a face.
| Hero | Join beat | If missing |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Game start | — |
| Exile | Western corridor ambush | Push west, not eastern gate |
| Scholar | Post-statues pathway | Finish stone statues first |
The shared deck is a conversation: Warrior plays feed Scholar Red Mana, Exile loaders set Barrage, Scholar Rot makes long fights free while Warrior soaks.
| Opener | Follow-up | Closer |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior Grit / Shout | Exile Weakness | Anyone’s cheap chip |
| Exile Lock and Load | Fully Automatic / Barrage | Warrior Strength spend |
| Scholar Rot | Contagion when Red Mana ready | Decay if Time Counters are high |
| Swap Warrior to spike | Exile off-lane Barrage | Scholar heal / Sage |
Illusionist / Gambler / Monk Memories and injected weapon cards can outweigh a mediocre unlock. Audit gear text whenever a hero “feels weak.”
Shrike wants Weakness + lane swaps. Wine King wants Rot / Barrage / Strength. Morgain wants Buildup control and Ethereal discipline. Retune between regions instead of one eternal deck.

The campaign expects all three. You can de-emphasise a kit in the shared deck, but lane coverage still matters.
See best cards. Boss application: Shrike.
Either the shared deck is too fat, or you never play Warrior cards to feed Red Mana. Trim fillers and keep a few Warrior plays in rotation.
